Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 300. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Meet Cardi — yes, that Cardi. Ms. Cardi brings the party whether you asked for it or not. Always smiling, always hyped, always acting like life is one long VIP event and she’s on the guest list. You’d never guess this girl just survived months of crate confinement and neglect, because she’s clearly operating on main character energy. Starved? Confined? Cardi says, “Tragic backstory noted—anyway, who wants to hang out?” It’s painfully obvious Cardi once lived the spoiled companion lifestyle, and she fully expects to return to it immediately. She loves all people, demands attention like it’s her birthright, and assumes she’s included in every family activity by default. Going somewhere? Cardi’s ready. Sitting down? Cardi’s coming. Existing? Cardi approves. She lives in the moment, thrives on car rides, walks, tug games, couch snuggles, and aggressively relaxing with a chew toy. She can get a little chatty when she’s excited—just expressing her thoughts, not screaming about them. After everything she’s been through, Cardi prefers to be the one and only pet in the home. Solo spotlight, please and thank you. Cardi was previously housebroken and crate trained and will just need some patience while she relearns her routine and adjusts to being worshipped again, as she deserves. She may be a senior, but don’t tell her that—she’s got the energy of a dog half her age. The only giveaway is her absolutely fabulous frosted face. Add in her shiny black coat (which will need regular brushing), and you’ve got a seasoned queen who’s still stealing the show. Cardi’s ready to reclaim her throne—and she expects snacks. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and rec ommendations to keep your senior dog in top shape. Cardi is from a local shelter. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.

Breed overview
Overview:
The Sheprador, a popular crossbreed resulting from the union of a German Shepherd Dog and a Labrador Retriever, embodies many desirable traits from both parent breeds. Originating from designer breed efforts to combine the intelligence of the German Shepherd with the Labrador's friendly disposition, these dogs typically boast a medium to large build with a dense, weather-resistant coat that can range in color. Physically, they often exhibit the Shepherd’s strong bone structure and the Lab’s kind eyes. Temperamentally, Shepradors are generally intelligent, loyal, and trainable, making them excellent companions for active families. They thrive on human interaction and do best in homes with a yard, as their energy levels make apartment living challenging without significant daily exercise. While generally healthy, potential health considerations include hip and elbow dysplasia, common to both parent breeds, and eye conditions. Early socialization and consistent training are key to fostering a well-adjusted Sheprador.
