Meet Lilo, a 5-year-old mixed-breed female with a big heart, playful personality, and a deep bond with her companion dog, Nova. These two dogs live together and are very attached — their family would love for them to be adopted together into a home that can offer stability, love, and patience. About Lilo Breed: Mixed Age: 5 years Color: Brown Gender: Female Spayed: No Vaccines: Up to date Crate Trained: Yes Potty Trained: Unknown Living Situation: Both indoors and outdoors Other Dogs: Has lived successfully with dogs (including Nova) Behavior & Temperament Children: Friendly and loving with kids she has known Visitors: Gets excited and may jump up when greeting Personality: Sweet, playful, affectionate, and alert Prey Drive: Does not do well with small animals; loves chasing mice and will actively hunt when encouraged Training Cue: Responds enthusiastically to the phrase “get it girl” Handling: Allows people to take food and toys Bite History: None Medical Transparency Lilo has a metal rod in her back leg from a spiral fracture that occurred about three years ago. The injury has fully healed, and she is doing well. She has been seen by a veterinarian at Stone Lake Animal Hospital in Elk Grove. All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months). All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
