Description
Dog Breed: Rottweiler (short coat). Please contact SSRR (Adoptionssouthernstatesrescuedrottweilers) for more information about this pet. Reggie is an 80-pound "big ham" who LOVES his people! He is looking for a strong leader that will be able to continue with his training. This handsome guy is incredibly loyal, but he’s looking for a specific type of home where he can truly relax and be his best self. The Quick Facts: Age: Approx 3.5 years Weight: 80 lbs (More to love!) Location: Wakefield, VA Health: Neutered, microchipped, Heartworm NEGATIVE, and UTD on all vaccines. Compatibility: Best as an only dog; NO cats; NO children. Why Reggie is Special: Reggie is an amazing, incredibly intelligent, observant, and affectionate boy. He is the ultimate "work hard, play hard" companion. He has a fantastic off-switch indoors but enough endurance to be your favorite hiking or running partner. Did we mention that he does great on a leash? The Key to Reggie’s Heart is structure! Reggie is a "back of the pack" dog. When he feels he has to be the boss, he gets stressed and anxious. But when he has a confident human leader who sets clear boundaries and routines, his anxiety vanishes. He wants to follow your lead! Reggie’s Best Traits: Super Smart: Loves interactive games and mental stimulation. Food Motivated: Makes training a breeze! Model Citizen: House-broken, crate-trained, and has excellent leash manners. Affectionate: Bonds deeply with "his" person. What Reggie Needs: He is looking for an EXPERIENCED, Rottie-savvy foster who understands Rottie behavior and pack leadership. Reggie needs a home with a predictable routine where he isn't "running the show." Because of his high prey drive, a home without small animals or children is required. Can you give this big guy the structure and love he deserves? If you believe you are a good fit for Reggie, contact us and we'll set up an interview with his trainer to see if you are. READY TO HELP? Overview:
The Rottweiler is a powerful and intelligent breed, originating in Germany where they were primarily used to drive cattle and guard property. Physically, they are robust dogs, instantly recognizable by their medium-large size, strong build, and striking black coat with distinct tan markings, particularly on the muzzle, chest, and legs. Their temperament, when properly socialized and trained, is one of unwavering loyalty and confidence; they are known for being calm and courageous, making them excellent guardians. While generally good with children within their own family, their protective instincts mean they require supervision with strangers. Due to their size and need for regular exercise and mental stimulation, Rottweilers are generally not ideal for apartment living and thrive in homes with secure yards. Health-wise, they can be predisposed to conditions such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain heart conditions, necessitating responsible breeding practices and regular veterinary check-ups.
