Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet Kevin, our incredibly handsome Pit Bull Terrier mix who was rescued from Contra Costa Animal Services after being placed on the euthanasia list. Thanks to a second chance, Kevin is now safe—but what he truly needs is a forever home. Kevin is about 3 years old and weighs approximately 55 lbs. He is fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. He’s currently working with professional trainers, where he’s thriving and socializing beautifully with other dogs. This sweet boy has the most gentle soul. He absolutely loves people and forms strong, loving bonds with those around him. Kevin gets along great with other dogs and has a calm, affectionate nature that makes him such a joy to be around. His kind eyes and soft spirit will melt your heart the moment you meet him. Kevin has been given a second chance at life—now he just needs someone to give him a chance at love. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
