Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / Beagle / Mixed. Age: 8 years Size: 40 lbs Estimated breed: Labrador retriever/Beagle mix Has lived with: Female dogs, cats Lt Dan was found as a stray in North Carolina, completely unable to use his hind legs. He was brought to the local shelter and put on a ten day euthanasia deadline due to his medical needs, which just happened to fall over Christmas. We checked in after the holidays and found he was only a day away from euthanasia and knew we had to help. Lt Dan had performed a Christmas miracle of his own - after several days of crate rest, he regained the ability to walk! Lt Dan has spent the past few months with a temporary foster but is ready to move on to new digs. He is looking for a new foster or better yet, an adopter to take over after May 15! Lt Dan has IVDD and a collapsing trachea. He gets around just fine as long as his activity level is kept to a minimum. Short leashed walks and brief playtimes in the yard keep him happy and healthy! He takes daily medication for coughing that costs $40/month and wears a harness to prevent pressure being put on his trachea. He has done great with small dogs and female dogs in the home. He's been reactive meeting large male dogs. He'd be happy in a home with females or as the only dog! He is cat-friendly and fine with children 10+. Lt Dan loves to be with his people and isn't fond of the crate, so a family who is home throughout the day will make him happiest. He is 8 years old, weighs 40 lbs but should ideally be closer to 35 lbs. He is the size of a corgi with super short legs and a stocky body! To adopt Lt Dan, please apply on our website! .nirvanaanimalrescue/adoption-application Lt Dan's adoption fee is $200, which covers his vaccines, microchip, senior bloodwork, neuter, and monthly prevention. Please note we cannot guarantee the age or breed of any of our dogs. All of our dogs are working on their crate and house training. PA Kennel License #18366

Breed overview
Overview:
The Labbe, an increasingly popular designer dog breed, is a delightful mix of the outgoing Beagle and the loyal Labrador Retriever. Originating from the desire to combine the best traits of both parents, Labbes are known for their medium size, typically weighing between 30-70 pounds, and possessing a sturdy, athletic build. Their coats are usually short and dense, varying in color like their Lab parents, and their ears often retain the Beagle's charming flop. Temperamentally, Labbes are renowned for being friendly, intelligent, and generally good-natured, making them excellent family pets that thrive on companionship. While adaptable, their moderate energy levels mean they benefit from regular exercise and are best suited for homes with yards, although they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient outdoor activity. Potential health considerations, inherited from their parent breeds, can include hip and elbow dysplasia, ear infections, and certain eye conditions, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups crucial for these engaging companions.
