Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Rat Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 450. Dominic is a big personality in a tiny package. When he gets excited, he jumps like a little goat, and his tongue—somehow longer than the rest of his body— hangs out, he seems as though he would feel right at home on a stand up comedy stage-he’s a total goof. Dominic is, how you say, OBSESSED with being cozy, give him a good blanket or an oversized dog bed, and you’ll move to the top of his favorite people list FAST. While he’s not a cuddly lap dog, he does like being near his people, keeping them company while still enjoying his own space. He’s the perfect match for someone who appreciates a dog with a sense of humor, strong opinions about comfort, and a unique personality. Dominic may not be in your lap, but he’ll absolutely be in your heart—and probably hogging the best blanket in the house. Dominic is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 02/07/20926 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.

Breed overview
Overview:
The Rat-Cha, a charming crossbreed between the Chihuahua and Rat Terrier, offers a spirited companion with a unique blend of its parent breeds' best traits. Originating from the desire to combine the Chihuahua's affectionate nature with the Rat Terrier's intelligence and robustness, this hybrid is gaining popularity. Physically, Rat-Chas are typically small to medium-sized, weighing between 6 and 15 pounds, with a short, easy-to-care-for coat that can vary widely in color. They often possess expressive eyes and a sturdy build, reflecting their terrier lineage. Temperamentally, they are known for being alert, playful, and loyal, often forming strong bonds with their families. While they can be vocal, early socialization and training can mitigate this. Their adaptable size makes them well-suited for both apartment living and homes with yards, and they can be wonderful additions to active families, though supervision is wise with very young children due to their smaller stature. Health-wise, like many small breeds, they can be prone to dental issues and patellar luxation, so regular vet check-ups are important.
