ONYX - Mutt Male Dog For Adoption in Woodland Hills, California, USA

Dog Breed: Flat-coated Retriever / Mixed (medium coat).

Meet Onyx Once just a number on a euthanasia list, Onyx was waiting on a cold shelter floor at Contra Costa Animal Services—unsure if anyone would come for him. It’s hard to understand how a dog this gentle, this loving, could have come so close to losing his life simply because he was overlooked. Life hasn’t been kind to Onyx. He didn’t deserve to be abandoned, and he certainly didn’t deserve to feel invisible. And yet… his spirit never broke. Onyx is about 4 years old and weighs around 45 lbs. We believe he may be a Flat-Coated Retriever or Newfoundland mix—whatever his breed, he is absolutely stunning, both inside and out. He’s vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. Despite everything, Onyx still loves people. He still trusts. He still leans in for affection and just wants to be close to someone who makes him feel safe. He can do well with other dogs when introduced properly, but more than anything, he’s craving a person to call his own. What Onyx wants is simple, but powerful: A home. A soft place to rest. A human who won’t give up on him. He will give his whole heart to the person who chooses him—and he’ll spend every day proving just how much that love means. If you can adopt, foster, or foster-to-adopt Onyx, please reach out to the rescue. And if you can’t, sharing his story could be the reason someone else does. Please don’t let Onyx be overlooked again ✨
