GPMR adopts to the states of Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana and parts of Colorado. !!!Any mastiffs being adopted out of the state of Oklahoma require a health certificate to be paid for by the adopter!!! Meet Bruno! This handsome boy came into rescue when his owners were having a baby and felt like they weren't able to give him the time he deserved. We would agree with this, as it's clear Bruno didn't get out of his home much. He is a sweet dog only 14 months, but has not received much training and is very strong. His new owner will have to commit to bringing this boy through some obedience school, so he can learn to be the best dog he can be! Bruno was not socialized with dogs outside his home. He can be reactive to dogs who growl at him. If he is to live with other dogs, he will require very slow and gradual introductions for it to be a success. He needs canine companions who are dog friendly and well socialized with dogs so he has a positive rolemodel to show him the ropes. He also would do great as the only pet in the home. He has not been evaluated with cats. He would not be recommended for homes with small children due to his size and being unaware of his size. Bruno has a vet appointment and will have his hips xrayed. His legs turn outward some and so we want to have this evaluated. He doesn't seem to have problems with his back end so that's a good sign. We'll report back when we have more information! Bruno is being fostered in Licking, MO Save a Mastiff...Adopt, Foster, Volunteer!

Overview:

The Mastiff, an ancient and noble breed, boasts a history stretching back millennia, often linked to the Molosser dogs of antiquity. Renowned for their immense size, these gentle giants are characterized by their powerful, muscular build, broad head, and short, dense coat typically seen in fawn, apricot, or brindle. Despite their imposing appearance, Mastiffs are famous for their remarkably calm and gentle temperament, making them surprisingly affectionate and devoted companions. They generally get along well with children and other pets, provided they are properly socialized from a young age. While their size might suggest a need for vast spaces, their relatively low energy levels mean they can adapt to apartment living if given regular, moderate exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, bloat, and eye conditions, necessitating responsible breeding and veterinary care. Their loyalty and protective instincts, combined with their loving nature, make the Mastiff a truly magnificent addition to the right family.
