Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 550. When Bagel first came into rescue, he was very shy and timid, unsure of the world around him. After just a few days in his foster home, he began to blossom. Once he realized he was safe, he turned into a little shadow, following his foster mom from room to room and quietly soaking up the comfort of being loved. As his confidence grew, so did his personality. Bagel started playing with toys and his foster sister, discovered that cats are friends (he loves them!), and began curling up nearby during TV time. Now, when his person comes home after a long day, Bagel transforms into a happy, silly guy, full of joy and tail wags. Bagel was found running the streets of Texas on a cold, rainy day, and he’s still learning that a home is a permanent, safe place. He can be timid and shy at first, but he comes out of his shell much faster with another confident dog in the home. He’ll need time, patience, and plenty of gentle encouragement. He’s not a fan of crates yet and may try to escape, simply because he’s still figuring out what safety really means. With reassurance, consistency, and kind words, Bagel continues to grow more confident every day. For someone willing to move at his pace and show him that he’s finally home, Bagel will be an incredibly loyal and loving companion. Bagel is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 02/20/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments. More About Jack Chi BreedOverview:
The Jack Chi is a delightful designer breed, a cross between the spirited Chihuahua and the energetic Jack Russell Terrier. Originating from the desire to combine the best traits of both parents, this hybrid typically inherits a compact size, weighing between 8-18 pounds and standing 10-15 inches tall. Their physical appearance varies, often featuring a short, smooth coat in colors like black, white, tan, or a combination, with alert, intelligent eyes. Temperamentally, Jack Chis are known for being playful, intelligent, and loyal companions. They possess the Chihuahua's affectionate nature and the Jack Russell's zest for life, making them engaging pets. While adaptable to apartment living due to their smaller stature, they require regular exercise and mental stimulation to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. They can be good with families who understand their need for consistent training and socialization, especially with younger children. Notable health considerations for the Jack Chi include potential predispositions to conditions seen in their parent breeds, such as patellar luxation, dental issues, and heart problems, highlighting the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
