Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 550. Penni is a loving, affectionate little pup with a heart as warm as her beautiful copper-colored coat. Soft as velvet and sweet as can be, she’s the kind of dog who truly thrives on closeness—lap time, cuddles, and being near her people are her favorite things. She’s a playful girl who gets along wonderfully with other dogs and loves to engage them in her signature game: the playful “chase me if you dare.” Watching Penni zoom around the backyard, daring her dog friends to follow, is guaranteed to make you smile. She enjoys toys, outdoor playtime, and then happily settles in for affection and relaxation. Penni is crate trained, intelligent, eager to please, and even-tempered. She’s still working on perfecting her potty training, but she does a great job letting you know when she needs to go outside. Potty pads have been helpful when her humans are away, and with a consistent routine, she’s sure to continue improving. She can be a bit vocal at times—usually when other dogs are barking, someone comes to the house, or when meeting new people—but this comes from her protective nature and loyalty. Once she feels comfortable, her gentle and affectionate personality really shines through. Penni would love a home where she gets plenty of attention and companionship, though she does fine when left alone with comforting background noise like the TV or radio. Whether she’s playing, exploring the yard, or curled up in your lap, Penni is happiest when she’s part of the family. If you’re looking for a devoted, playful, and loving companion who will bring warmth, laughter, and lots of snuggles into your life, Penni may be the perfect match. Penni is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 02/20/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Breed overview
Overview:
The Chiweenie, an adorable and increasingly popular designer breed, is a delightful cross between the spirited Chihuahua and the charming Dachshund. Originating in the United States, these small companions inherited a unique blend of traits from their parent breeds. Physically, they typically possess a long, low body reminiscent of the Dachshund, combined with the often-large ears and expressive eyes of the Chihuahua. Their coats can vary widely in color and texture, from short and smooth to long and wiry. Temperamentally, Chiweenies are known for being loyal, affectionate, and surprisingly energetic. They often exhibit a playful and sometimes stubborn streak, making early socialization and training beneficial. Their small size makes them well-suited for apartment living and families with older children or individuals seeking a devoted lapdog. While generally robust, potential health considerations include issues common to their parent breeds, such as patellar luxation and intervertebral disc disease, making regular veterinary check-ups important for their long-term well-being.
