Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. Currently located at our Evansville, IN location Alosa Meet Alosa! Born in August 2023, this sweet girl may be a little timid at first, but she warms up quickly and blossoms into a loving, devoted companion. When meeting new people or dogs, Alosa often whimpers with excitement — she wants to say hello but may need a little reassurance before she feels brave enough to move closer. Alosa is a smart girl who learns quickly, especially when treats are involved! While she’s not a big fan of being placed in her crate, she settles down quickly and relaxes once inside. She’s incredibly snuggly and happiest curled up next to her person on the couch, happily chewing on a toy. She enjoys playing fetch (indoors is her favorite!) and will keep herself entertained — though if she gets bored, she may chew on things she shouldn’t, like her collar or blankets. Keeping her stocked with appropriate chew toys will help her succeed. Alosa isn’t quite as small as she thinks she is, which can make her a little clumsy at times — but it just adds to her charm! Above all, she is happiest when she’s with her person and thrives on love and companionship. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate best friend, Alosa may be your perfect match. Apply today to meet her! All of our dogs are examined by a veterinarian, given age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped, spayed or neutered, heartworm tested and treated if necessary.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
