Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). About 4 years old, Murphy is a gentle and respectful blue heeler mix. He has a sweet and loving manner and enjoys a good belly scratching. Murphy is good on leash, loads up easily, and enjoys car rides. He's been good with other dogs and polite to the cat he's met. He is neutered, vaccinated, and up to date on heartworm/flea/tick preventative. He is heartworm positive now, but PLEASE don't let that hold you back! We have a plan to eliminate those pesky parasites and our veterinarian predicts a long and healthy life after treatment. He is located in Monticello, MS and appointments to meet him are available weekdays as well as evenings and weekends. His adoption fee is $100. You can reach a volunteer at 769-281-8202 to schedule an appointment or ask any questions that you might have.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
