Description
Dog Breed: Doberman Pinscher (short coat). Adoption Fee: $400. Needing a new foster or an adopter! Meet Blue! Blue is a 6-year-old bundle of joy with a big smile and an even bigger love for life. This sweet, happy Doberman is always ready for his next adventure—whether that’s a game of fetch, a car ride, or running alongside you while you get things done. Blue is a fetch fanatic and will happily chase a ball until he’s completely worn out. He also loves tug-of-war (and fair warning… he usually wins!). When playtime is over, he’s content just hanging out by your side—he’s the kind of loyal buddy who simply wants to be wherever his person is. He’s great with people, knows basic commands like sit, lay down, and shake, and rides wonderfully in the car. Blue is crate trained(will bark if he has been in it too long), signals when he needs to go out by sitting at the door and whining, and has done very well with his house manners. Blue can play a little rough with other dogs at first and would do best with slow introductions. He also has a high prey drive, so a home without cats or small animals is recommended. If you’re looking for an active, loyal best friend who’s always up for fetch, adventures, and sticking by your side, Blue might just be your perfect match. He is having some crate anxiety with his foster working 12hr shifts and is barking a lot and has hurt himself trying to get out. He would do best with a foster/adopter that is home more and can be crated for short intervals or working with crate training and getting more comfortable with it. Please read all adoption steps and policies carefully on our website. dobermanrescueminnesota/adoption-steps/ Qualified adopters are within the approved adoption area, and Adopter will be requested to visit this foster dog at the foster family home. Our foster families are generally located within a 250 mile radius of Minneapolis, MN. All DRM dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, health checked, microchipped, 4DX tested, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Overview:
The Doberman Pinscher is a sleek and powerful breed originating from Germany in the late 19th century, specifically developed by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann for protection. Known for their striking, athletic build, Dobermans typically possess a short, glossy coat that comes in black, red, blue, or fawn, often with rust-colored markings. Their temperament is a fascinating blend of loyalty, intelligence, and alertness, making them exceptional guardians and devoted companions. While highly trainable and eager to please, they require early socialization and consistent training to channel their energy and protectiveness appropriately. Dobermans can thrive in active families who can provide ample exercise and mental stimulation, but their need for space and activity generally makes them less suitable for small apartment living unless exceptionally well-exercised. Regarding health, they are predisposed to certain conditions like Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), Von Willebrand's Disease, and Wobbler Syndrome, so responsible breeding and veterinary care are paramount.
