Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (long coat). Ivy is a stunning, 5-year-old long‑haired German Shepherd who has been waiting for her forever home for months. Ivy is wonderful on leash and absolutely adores people. While she’s unfazed by dogs she passes on walks—even if they bark—she isn’t interested in mingling. Ivy doesn't want to share her space with other dogs, or cats so a pet‑free home is the best fit for her. This clever girl already knows a few commands—sit, down, and paw—and loves showing them off. A fenced yard where she can run and play fetch all day would make her happiest. She’s crazy about her ball and would be thrilled to have a pool, too, for extra outdoor fun and sniffing adventures. Ivy is affectionate, gentle, and housetrained. She’s so deserving of a family who will cherish her and give her the love she’s been waiting for. Available for Foster or adoption. Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
