Dog Breed: Dutch Shepherd. Hi, I'm JoJo! I'm a 2 year old Dutch Shepherd mix. I'm as loveable as can be and am such a good boy! I get along great with other dogs, walk okay on a leash, and am even potty-trained. I need a home without cats though as I like to chase them. I'm in a foster home and patiently waiting for my chance at a forever home. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at .polkcountyhumanesociety/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop

Overview:
The Hollandse Herdershond, or Dutch Shepherd, is a versatile and intelligent breed originating from the Netherlands, where they were traditionally used by shepherds and farmers for herding and guarding livestock. Physically, they are a medium-sized dog with a powerful, muscular build, typically weighing between 50-70 pounds and standing 21-25 inches tall. Their coats come in three varieties: short-haired, long-haired, and wire-haired, all displaying the breed's distinctive brindle pattern in shades of gold or silver. Temperamentally, Dutch Shepherds are known for their strong work ethic, loyalty, and unwavering devotion to their families. They are highly trainable and excel in various dog sports like obedience, agility, and protection work. While generally good with children, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them better suited for active families with experience in dog ownership, rather than first-time owners or those in apartment settings. Like many active breeds, they can be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important for their long-term health.
