Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Meet Edna Edna is a 12-year-old, 6-pound Texas native who has been through some things—and would like it noted that she is over it. Formerly homeless, now rescued, she’s entered her well-deserved “tiny, grumpy diva” era. After seeing the vet, the official diagnosis is: hot mess. Not just any hot mess—a fixable hot mess, but Edna would prefer you not dwell on that. She’s focusing on her narrative. She’s diabetic and requires daily insulin injections (which she considers deeply inconvenient and possibly a personal attack). She doesn’t see or hear very well, so if you startle her, that’s on you. Boundaries matter. She’ll also need to be spayed once her blood sugar decides to cooperate. Edna can be a little spicy—but honestly, she’s earned it. She’s small, she doesn’t feel great, and yet she still demands to be held like the royalty she clearly is. Her hobbies include judging you silently, burrowing under blankets like a dramatic little burrito, and accepting affection strictly on her terms. Despite her sass, Edna is a champion snuggler and wants nothing more than a warm lap and a human who understands that love sometimes comes with a side of attitude. We’ll keep sharing updates as this tiny icon continues her journey from “hot mess” to “absolute legend.” If you'd like to apply to adopt Edna, please fill out an adoption application at .northstarpets and be sure to ask for her by name - EDNA TX!

Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
