Name: Melo Breed: Terrier mix Age: Approximately 9 years Vaccines: Up to date Any medical conditions: He had a femur surgery a few years ago and has recovered well Neutered: Yes Chip: Yes Temperament: Sweet, affectionate, and people-oriented. He enjoys attention and being around his family. He has a higher energy level and benefits from structure and routine. Enjoys: Playtime, attention, being around people, and staying active Potty trained?: Mostly, but has had occasional accidents Coat: Short Eyes: heterochromia, one blue and one brown Get along with dogs?: Can be reactive on leash (may bark or lunge), but has lived with other dogs before and can adapt, preferably with medium to large dogs Good with cats?: No Good with kids?: Not tested with young children; would recommend a home with older kids How long have you had the pet for?: Since 2019 Reason for rehoming?: Due to changes in our household and the dynamics with other pets, we are no longer able to provide the environment that best suits his needs, and we want to find him a home where he can truly thrive. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
