Description
Dog Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $395. Buddy is settling beautifully into foster care and already showing everyone what a wonderful dog he is This handsome 2.5 year-old neutered boy weighs about 20 lbs and, despite everything he has been through, (recent neuter, leaving the shelter, and flight to the States, leaving his brother for a foster home with cats) he has been incredibly gentle, affectionate, and eager to learn. Within his first 24 hours in foster care, Buddy went on multiple walks and did amazingly well on leash. He was calm, responsive, and very easy to redirect when passing other dogs. His foster describes him as tremendously well-behaved, especially considering how new and overwhelming everything must feel for him right now. Buddy has also been doing great using the yard to potty and has quickly become quite the cuddle bug. After walks and exploring, he’s happiest relaxing nearby and soaking up affection. He is still decompressing from shelter life and travel, so he spends a lot of time resting and quietly adjusting to home life. He does seem very interested in the foster’s cat, so for now introductions are being managed carefully and only while he is leashed. Buddy originally found himself in a shelter in Puerto Rico with his brother. Click an image to complete one of our adoption applications today!

More About Jack Chi BreedOverview:
The Jack Chi is a delightful designer breed, a cross between the spirited Chihuahua and the energetic Jack Russell Terrier. Originating from the desire to combine the best traits of both parents, this hybrid typically inherits a compact size, weighing between 8-18 pounds and standing 10-15 inches tall. Their physical appearance varies, often featuring a short, smooth coat in colors like black, white, tan, or a combination, with alert, intelligent eyes. Temperamentally, Jack Chis are known for being playful, intelligent, and loyal companions. They possess the Chihuahua's affectionate nature and the Jack Russell's zest for life, making them engaging pets. While adaptable to apartment living due to their smaller stature, they require regular exercise and mental stimulation to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. They can be good with families who understand their need for consistent training and socialization, especially with younger children. Notable health considerations for the Jack Chi include potential predispositions to conditions seen in their parent breeds, such as patellar luxation, dental issues, and heart problems, highlighting the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
