Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (short coat). Meet Maggie. This mature awesome gal ended up at the shelter when her human passed away. Maggie was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor between one of her rear leg toes. Because of her age a conservative approach has been followed. Under this approach her tumor has shrunk significantly, and Maggie continues to live her best retirement life. Maggie's foster mom reports that Maggie is "just so much fun". Maggie has a knack for reminding her foster about mealtime especially when the "service" is late! Maggie loves belly rubs, playing with toys, cuddling, and car rides. Maggie loves to help out in the garden. Also, apparently earth worms are a delicacy (we will let you figure that one out!) Maggie is most definitely a hospice dog. Our rescue believes in quality vs. quantity of life and at the moment Maggie is thriving. Anyone who has experienced an "old" dog understands. We are seeking a special human who will give Maggie her next forever home.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
