Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever (medium coat). Moku is looking for a patient family that will give him the time and space to settle into home life. Before coming to the shelter, the person who found him reported that he was housebroken, crate trained, and did well in the home. He also got along with a female dog, though he would likely do best with careful introductions to any canine companions. The shelter has been overwhelming for Moku. The constant noise and activity have made it difficult for him to relax, and the stress has caused him to become reactive in his kennel. Once he's away from the chaos, we believe he'll have a much better opportunity to show his true personality. Moku would thrive in a calm, structured home with someone who understands that some dogs simply need time to decompress after leaving the shelter. With patience, routine, and guidance, Moku has the potential to become a wonderful companion. If you're willing to give Moku the chance he deserves, you may discover a loyal friend who's been waiting for someone to believe in him.

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
