Description
Dog Breed: Manchester Terrier / Mixed. Savvy is a beautiful, fun-loving girl who is ready to find an active family to keep up with her adventurous spirit! This sweet girl is spayed, potty trained, and crate trained, making her a wonderful companion for a family ready to continue helping her thrive. Savvy loves being active and enjoys going on walks, playing with her dog friends, and spending time with her people. She also knows how to relax after a fun day—her favorite activities include napping, soaking up attention from humans, enjoying treats, and showing off her toy-destroying skills! (She believes toys are much more fun once she gets to the inside of them!) Savvy gets along with most dogs, but like many dogs, she has certain dogs and people she feels unsure about and can be reactive in those situations. She will need a family committed to continuing her training and helping her build confidence and positive associations. She can also pull on leash when she spots exciting things like birds and squirrels, so continued leash work will help her become the best walking buddy she can be. Savvy loves children, but because of her size and strength, she should be supervised around them to make sure everyone has the best experience. A home with cats is likely not the best fit for this girl, as she enjoys chasing and engaging with things that catch her attention. Savvy would thrive with an active family who enjoys walks, hikes, runs, or other adventures and is willing to continue working with her on her reactivity. She is a smart girl who has so much potential and will reward her family with loyalty, affection, and plenty of fun. Savvy has experienced one seizure, and we want to be transparent with her future family. We are currently evaluating the cause and closely monitoring her health. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
