Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet Ethel! Ethel is the definition of a sweet, laid back companion. She’s happiest hanging out with her people, soaking up the sunshine, and enjoying life’s simple pleasures. If you let her, she’d happily spend the entire day sunbathing outside. She is kennel trained, potty trained, and has wonderful house manners. Ethel is also incredibly gentle with children, including toddlers, making her a fantastic family dog. She does well with cats and has been respectful of her feline friends. She has not been around other dogs yet, so we are currently unsure how she would do in a home with another dog. Ethel is very food motivated and currently working on her “summer body.” She firmly believes every meal should come with seconds (and maybe a few extra snacks), but we’re helping her lose a couple of extra pounds one treat at a time! She’s learning to become a better leash walker and is making progress, though she still pulls and gets very excited when she spots squirrels, bunnies, chipmunks, or the occasional motorcycle. Those are simply too interesting to ignore! One thing we’re continuing to work on is that Ethel may growl while eating her food. We’ve been working with her on this and she has already made progress with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement. If you’re looking for a loving, easygoing dog who adores kids, enjoys relaxing by your side, gets along with cats, and will happily keep you company on sunny afternoons, Ethel might just be your perfect match. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Dental, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $375.00

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
