Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). OREO is a truly great family dog. He's calm around people and dogs. He genuinely wants to make friends. He loves being petted. He likes being an active part of the family. He was found in a leg trap. No broken bones, he's just fine. He was found quickly on one of the reservations we work with. Now he'd like to be loved and protected by a forever family. Oreo is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested. He's 5-6 yrs old and a great age. He is a "stubby tail" cattledog mix - meaning his tail looks docked, but he was born this way as is typical of the breed mix. We adopt to the Santa Fe, ABQ, Los Alamos and Rio Rancho areas of New Mexico. Our adoption process is straightforward - email us first to check on availability DesertPawsNMgmail. Then an online application, pics/vid, phone call to discuss/answer questions. We then bring the animal to you and help with intro's with your animals and all household members. Adoption and follow-up. If you think OREO might be your next family member, we'll get the process started for this wonderful dog :-)

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
