Description
Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). This is Thor! He is a very playful and happy male Great Pyrenees who loves to play with other dogs and get attention from his people. He was born around September of 2024, he weighs in at a healthy weight of 85 pounds. He has a long golden coat with white 'socks' on his legs. He is great with all people and strangers. He loves to sit on the couch with you. While Thor doesn't jump up, but would be worried about him knocking over small children since he isn't careful when he plays. Thor is in a foster home with quite a few other dogs and does well, but he also wouldn't mind being an only dog soaking up all your attention. He can be aggressive towards dogs upon first introduction, but once he becomes familiar he just wants to play all the time. He loves to play and is fun to watch when he goes crazy. Overall he is a high energy dog. He would do best in a home with other dogs to play with or time dedicated to playing with him or going on long walks. He loves to go on walks and does well on a leash except when he sees another dog, at which point he can pull quite a bit. He’s not a big fan getting in the car but once he is in, he doesn’t whine or move around too much. He knows sit and come, especially when treats are involved. He loves food so much that he is a bit of a counter surfer, so any food that is left out within his very high reach can disappear if not watched carefully. He is house trained and is very good about waiting to do his business outside. He is crate trained although isn’t a huge fan of going in the crate unless there is food in there. Thor is very sweet and goofy. He is currently in a foster home near Ft Worth Texas. Out of area adopters are responsible for arranging their own transportation. He is neutered and up to date on vaccines. His adoption fee is $250. Apply to meet and adopt Thor at .spinrescue

Breed overview
Great Pyrenees
A.K.A.: Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Patou, Chien de Montagne des Pyrénées, Pyrenean, Big White Dog, Bear Dog, Gentle Giant, Great Pyr, Pyr
Overview:
The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
