Atticus Finch – Yellow Male, 10 years, 97 lbs. Meet Atticus Finch At 97 pounds, Atticus is a giant yellow Lab with an even bigger heart. He’s gentle, magnificently made, with stout bones, huge paws, and underneath it all… a total pile of mush. Literally he has no clue he’s any bigger than a tiny lap dog! This sweet old soul has clearly been through some hard days. He came to us with old wounds, badly infected ears, numerous health concerns and a fractured wrist that never healed properly. He was found as a stray and animal control thought he had been hit by a car because of what bad shape he was in and how badly he was struggling to walk. We learned after numerous X-rays and tests that he has severe osteoarthritis and unfortunately years of neglect, that has left his body pretty beat up. Because of that, Atticus will need lifelong pain management — and due to his old fracture in his wrist he can’t do long walks or big adventures anymore. He needs a quiet home and a big soft bed to call his own. His dream life is simple: a soft place to land, a human to lean against, leisurely days, endless cuddles, and plenty of naps beside the person he loves most. Atticus can be dog selective, and downright grouchy meeting new dogs, so he may do best as the only dog in the home where he can soak up all the love and attention for himself. If you’ve ever wanted a loyal shadow, a couch companion, and a best friend who will quietly adore you every single day, Atticus Finch is waiting. He just needs someone kind enough to give him comfort, security, and a forever home. Atticus has come a long way from being a stray wandering the streets, limping so badly he could hardly walk, to being a pampered house dog. He even seems to be doing ok living with indoor cats as long as the kitties stand their ground. Due to Atticus’ medical needs, an adoptive home must be prepared to address long term pain management needs, and be willing to ensure that his ears are properly cleaned and cared for regularly, and address the allergies that cause his discomfort. Chat with Atticus’ foster to learn more by starting an application to adopt at .LabRescueFresno If you are interested in adopting through Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno, you must first fill out an Adoption Application located at our website .LabRescueFresno All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines including rabies; flea/tick topical drops, heartworm tested and microchipped. Overview:

The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
