Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Terrier / Mixed. Meet Riley! Riley is a sweet 4‑year‑old Hound mix who’s been winning hearts since the moment she arrived. She came to us after an incident involving a smaller dog, but with people she has been nothing but gentle, loving, and eager to connect. Riley is one of those dogs who simply doesn’t thrive in a shelter environment, and we’re hoping she finds her forever home soon. When she first arrived, Riley was nervous and didn’t want to come out of her room. With patience, routine, and kindness, she slowly opened up—and now she greets us each day with a wagging tail, playful energy, and the cuddliest personality you could ask for. She truly blossoms when she feels safe. Riley has been dog‑tested and did well with a calm dog her size, but she’s not a match for high‑energy dogs or small animals. Because of her past, she’ll need a home without cats and without children under 12. If you have room in your heart for a gentle, affectionate dog who just wants to be loved, Riley may be your perfect match. She’s ready to leave the shelter behind and start her next chapter with someone who sees how special she is. Riley's adoption fee is $125, which helps support their medical care and preparation for adoption. Please note: All of our animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Each pet also receives a behavioral assessment to help us better understand the type of home they may thrive in. However, it’s important to remember that the results may not fully reflect an animal’s true personality, as shelter and foster environments can be stressful. If you are interested in meeting any of our animals, we encourage you to first visit our website and submit an adoption application: .acskc/adopt-1 Once your adoption application has been approved, we will call you to set up an appointment to meet with the pet! We welcome adopters from out of state to apply! _ When it comes to our pets, we're all-inclusive! Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
