Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Meet Selma! Formerly known as Indara at Harris County Pets, this sweet girl got a fresh start and a brand-new name when she joined Scout’s Honor Rescue. We love giving our dogs new names as they begin their next chapter, leaving the past behind and looking toward a brighter future. Selma shared a kennel with our sweet Patty and quickly showed us what a kind, gentle soul she is. The shelter estimates she’s around 6 years old, but honestly, we think she may be a little younger—either way, she has plenty of love left to give! Selma is dog-friendly and would love a canine companion to play with. She takes a few minutes to read the room and figure out another dog’s play style, but once she settles in, she’s happy and relaxed. She’s eager to learn, eager to please, and ready for someone willing to guide her with patience, consistency, and love. We may never know Selma’s story, but we do know she deserves a chance at a wonderful future. This sweet girl is looking for her person—someone who will help her learn, grow, and finally know what it feels like to be truly loved. Interested in fostering or adopting Selma? Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
