Dog Breed: Hound / Terrier / Mixed. Irresistible! Meet Toby, a boy that has high spirits and an irresistible face. He is a love at first sight kind of dog. He is known to melt hearts everywhere. Toby is a typical hound mix with a bit of higher energy combined with great personality and an abundance of love to give. He is a young boy at around a year old, and he is a large boy as well. He currently weighs around 62 pounds which puts him right at the threshold of a large dog. Roy pulls out all the stops with meeting new friends. His outgoing personality leads the way, and he interacts well with other dogs, children and adults. He could easily be the neighborhood greeter. He has not been introduced to cats since coming into rescue. His relationship with a cat remains an unknown. Toby will do well with an active family that can provide him with adequate daily exercise to work off his energy. He is a big fan of playtime. At the end of the day, Toby is all about love and he looks forward to sharing his love with his family. Toby is a stellar performer with his house, crate and leash training. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
