Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). MEET ROOKIE **Adoption fee waived Rookie is an almost 2 year old Pit Bull mix looking for a calm and understanding home where he can truly thrive. He came to us as an owner surrender due to reactivity around younger children, so we are recommending a home without children.Rookie has previously lived successfully with another dog; however, he is now required to be the only dog in the home. He is housebroken, crate trained, and knows his basic commands. Once he feels comfortable, Rookie is a loyal and affectionate companion who enjoys being close to his people.Rookie does not seem to enjoy crowds or overstimulating environments, so a quieter home with a predictable routine would be best for him. He would benefit from a patient adopter who can help him continue building confidence and feeling secure.If you are looking for a devoted companion and can provide Rookie with the calm environment he needs, he may be a great fit for your home. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
