Dog Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound (short coat). .pet-tender/adoptionform.htm Meet Brittany, a spayed, two-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound, a southern beauty who elicits compliments wherever she goes. Miniature for the breed at 40 pounds, Brittany has lots of teenage energy and would do best in a home with a large fenced-in yard. Likely a hunting dog abandoned for, well, not hunting, she’s a happy, loving soul, bashful at first, but quick to connect with her special people. Through the efforts of her trainer and foster parents, Brittany walks well on the leash, even over long distances, and can be trusted not to have accidents in the house if taken out regularly. She has quickly gained confidence with the sights and sounds of suburban life and recently had a fun first visit to the beach. Most of all, Brittany adores affection—she has the unique ability to grip onto you lovingly with her front paws and lean in for minutes while you rub her velvety soft, short coat. Brittany would be fine as either a solo dog or with another young dog of a similar playful spirit and size. This is a unique opportunity to own an uncommon breed with lots of personality. We have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our boarding facilities because they are so good for our dogs. We still don't have enough for all of our kennels. Overview:
The Treeing Walker Coonhound, a breed originating in the American South, was meticulously developed for its exceptional ability to track and "tree" raccoons and other small game. Physically, they are athletic and elegant, showcasing a smooth, short coat typically in tri-color (black, white, and tan) or bi-color patterns, along with a distinctive long tail and expressive, often pleading, brown eyes. Weighing between 50-70 pounds, their lean musculature allows for impressive endurance. Temperamentally, they are known for being intelligent, friendly, and affectionate, making them wonderful companions. However, their strong prey drive and high energy levels mean they thrive in active homes with securely fenced yards; apartment living is generally not recommended due to their need for extensive exercise and a tendency to bay. While generally a healthy breed, potential owners should be aware of possible issues like hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as bloat. Their loving nature makes them suitable for active families willing to provide ample physical and mental stimulation.
