Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Meet Elvis… a tiny senior with a big personality who needs your help ❤️ Everyone, say hello to Elvis — an adorable little 11-year-old Chihuahua who has recently come into the care of Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue. While he may be tiny, this little guy has been through a lot and is counting on us to help him get the care he deserves. Elvis is looking for a special home that understands his needs. He does not do well with children, but he does enjoy the company of small dogs after a proper introduction. Like many senior dogs we take in, Elvis has some medical needs that we now have to address. Our sweet boy needs to be neutered, and he is also dealing with a luxating patella, a condition affecting his knee that can cause discomfort and mobility issues. As always, we are committed to making sure Elvis gets the veterinary care he needs so he can have comfort, stability, and hopefully find the perfect forever home. But we can’t do this alone. The medical expenses for senior and medically needy dogs add up quickly, and with everything currently happening as we also support David through his upcoming heart surgery, we need our village now more than ever. If you are able to help Elvis on his journey, please consider making a donation. Every dollar helps us continue saying “yes” to dogs like Elvis who have nowhere else to turn. He will be available for adoption once he is neutered, adoption fee $300 and we do not transport dogs. Must be located in the Raleigh and surrounding area. rainbowbridgerescue/adopt/

Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
