Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). Location: Fuquay-Varina, NC Meet Cody! This handsome 3½-year-old Red Heeler is looking for an active home that can keep up with his adventurous spirit! If you love spending time outdoors, playing fetch, and having a loyal companion by your side, Cody may be your perfect match. Cody is happiest when he's outside exploring, running, and playing. His absolute favorite activity is fetch—he could chase a ball for hours and will happily bring it back for another throw. He gets along well with other dogs and enjoys having canine companions around. He is crate trained and has been a sweet, affectionate foster dog. He loves attention from his people and enjoys being included in family activities. Like many Heelers, Cody can be mouthy when excited and is still learning appropriate manners. He appears to have had little to no formal obedience training before coming into foster care, so his new family should be prepared to continue working on basic commands and structure. The good news is that he's smart, eager to engage, and already making progress. Cody would do best with an active adopter who understands the needs of herding breeds and is committed to providing regular exercise, training, and mental enrichment. In return, you'll get a loyal, loving companion who is ready to be your adventure buddy. - 3½ years old - Red Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) - Crate Trained - Dog Friendly - Loves Fetch - Active and Outdoorsy - Sweet and Affectionate - Currently Learning Basic Obedience and Manners If you're looking for a fun-loving dog with lots of potential and an even bigger heart, Cody would love to meet you! Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
