Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Mollie (AL) is only 2 years old, but she has already lived a lifetime’s worth of hardship — and somehow, she still greets the world with hope in her eyes. This beautiful Doodle girl was found as a stray with a cable tightly wound around her leg, cutting into her skin and causing unimaginable pain. She stood there silently, waiting for someone to notice her… waiting for someone to care. And when we saw her in the shelter, we didn’t hesitate. We scooped her up, rushed her to safety, and made sure she finally received the medical care she had been denied for far too long. Her leg is being treated, and we are hopeful it can be saved. What we know for certain is that Mollie’s spirit already has been. After her spa treatment, she emerged looking like a brandnew girl — soft, clean, glowing, with the cutest jetblack nose you’ve ever seen. But the real transformation is inside. Mollie is friendly, gentle, and trusting with people. She’s wonderful with other dogs. She leans in for affection like she’s making up for lost time, and she follows you with the quiet devotion of a dog who finally believes she matters. Mollie is ready for a home where she will never be overlooked again. A home where she will be cherished, protected, and adored the way she always deserved. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
