Description
Dog Breed: Yellow Labrador Retriever / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Reba was born about September 26, 2024 and at a normal weight will be about 75 lbs. She came to us as a Yellow Lab/Australian Shepherd but we feel we see some sort of Hound, thankfully she is not a barker. She is a very pretty girl that does wonderfully with other dogs and cats alike. She came to us after her human mom passed away unexpectedly and her human dad, working full time, was unable to handle the 4 large dogs especially in the city environment. It didn't take long for her to realize more grass and less concrete is a pretty good thing and that swimming is a blast! Reba is house trained, does well on leash and nail trims, Reba does fine in the car even on her two hour journey here to Joyful Rescues. We are told if she is off leash she may wander and grew up in a fenced yard with a wading pool in the driveway during summer. Oddly enough Reba has never chewed furniture or shoes, but has destroyed eye glasses, hearing aides, dentures and will counter surf. Reba has grown up with other dogs and we feel she'd be happiest in a home with one other dog that will be her buddy and we feel the other dog should be confident and not fearful to give her guidance meeting new humans as they can make her nervous as do small children. When her environment is uncomfortable with too much human commotion she enjoys going in her crate. We also feel she'd be fine as an only dog if her human is home much of the time. She truly adores her human snuggle time and her humans make her relaxed and happy, when excited she may jump up on you. Reba is playful, fun and will play catch. She is most happy in a stable and calm environment. The Adoption Fee for this dog is $_350.00_______. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
