Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Drakeo has lived with young kids, teenagers, and adults in the past! Our volunteers love his handsome looks and curious nature. He knows sit and has politely allowed for brushing. It seems like we are always posting shepherds in need... but Drakeo could really use a helping paw! He's about 3 years old, has been very friendly with people at the shelter, and was reported to do well with the children and babies he lived with in a previous home! They described Drakeo as `Very chill and relaxed. He is an indoor dog but can also be an outdoor dog. He doesnât make a mess inside and is also trained to only use the restroom outside!` Drakeo is need of support when it comes to meeting & seeing other dogs. While we're working on getting him into playgroup more regularly... life at the shelter is pretty hard for him being constantly surrounded by barking dogs, and not being able get out of the kennel often. He may also appreciate slow introductions to new people at home. We are hoping to find a Drakeo a soft, comfortable place to land via adoption or rescue. Adopters, please come visit Drakeo at the Camarillo Shelter. Rescue groups can email vcar.rescueventura with Drakeo A860072 as the subject line. Help with transport may be available!

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
