Dog Breed: Wirehaired Fox Terrier / Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed. Freedom Ride for Layla! ❤️ Layla is officially out of the shelter and on her way to her foster home! This sweet girl is about 3 years old and weighs 53 pounds. After meeting her today, our foster shared that Layla was friendly, affectionate, and full of love. Now it's time for the next important step—decompression. Layla has already experienced the heartbreak of being adopted twice and returned to the shelter twice. Because of that, we're committed to taking our time to truly get to know her. We'll be evaluating her personality, learning what environment she thrives in, and making sure we find the right forever home this time—not just the first one. For now, Layla will be settling into foster care, decompressing, and enjoying the chance to finally relax outside of the shelter. She deserves the opportunity to feel safe, build trust, and let her true personality shine. As she settles in, we'll continue to share updates on her progress, personality, and the type of home we believe will help her thrive. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics.
