Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Foster or forever home wanted, meet Everest. We in animal rescue and those who own pets, dread the 4th of July. I personally will never understand how people get enjoyment detonating explosives! Sadly, so many dogs lose their lives over the 4th, whether it's escaping and being hit by cars or landing in an already overcrowded animal shelter with little to no space to support the huge influx of incoming dogs. Everest like most dogs entering the shelter as a stray, was not wearing a collar, tag and was not microchipped so the shelter had no means to help reunite her with her family. Everest was nearly a 4th of July statistic. At 6 months old, her life is just beginning, and we couldn't let that happen to her. So, we kept an eye on her and saw her on the dreaded 72-hour notice list. Not only was the shelter overcrowded but now Everest came down with an upper respiratory infection that is fairly standard these days with the overcrowding. Once we had space to put her, we had her picked up and out of the shelter. Everest is on medication to treat the URI and is expected to make a full recovery. She seems very overwhelmed with the whole experience so is a little on the scared side, so we'd love to get her out of boarding and into a home as soon as possible to help her decompress. We don't know much about Everest at this time other than notes from the shelter on intake for handling her. She was given a score of 1 which is the best possible score. Notes indicated she was relaxed, flexible, upright, soft eyes and neutral ears. She readily ate for them. We will definitely update her bio once we learn more about her.
