Dog Breed: Dachshund. 🍀 Meet Cookie Clover! 🍀 Cookie Clover is an adorable 2-year-old Dachshund mix weighing about 13 lbs. She is one of the sweetest, most loving little dogs you'll ever meet. 💕 Cookie is a sensitive girl who can be a little anxious at first, so she'll need a little time, patience, and a few treats to settle in. Once she trusts you, she's an absolute cuddle bug who just wants to be close to her person. She would thrive in a home with another friendly dog and would be happiest with someone who works from home or isn't gone for long hours. She's great with cats, loves to play, and has a huge heart. She's learning that pottying outside is the way to go after previously using potty pads, so expect a normal adjustment period. Crate training is also a work in progress. Cookie and her sister haven't always lived together and do not have to be adopted together, but we'd love to see them stay connected with playdatesand we'd be happy to offer a discounted adoption fee if someone wanted to keep them together. The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
