Dog Breed: Dachshund. 🌹 Meet Maya Rose! 🌹 Maya Rose is an adorable young Dachshund mix with a playful, happy personality and so much love to give. She's a smart little girl who is learning the rules, but she's also sensitive and will need a patient family to help build her confidence. Maya is 2 ish yrs old and about 12lbs. She is doing well with crate and potty training but is still learning, so expect the normal adjustment period that comes with any new dog. She absolutely adores other dogs, cats, and gentle kids. Because she gets anxious when left alone, she'd do best in a home with another friendly dog and isn't the best fit for apartment living. Maya has a sister, Cookie Clover, who is also looking for her forever home. They haven't always lived together and do not have to be adopted together, but they love to play and would surely enjoy future playdates. We'd also be happy to offer a discounted adoption fee for a family interested in keeping them together. The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets.
