Description
Dog Breed: Shiba Inu (medium coat). Meet Kitsu (Kit) If you've ever dreamed of sharing your life with a little fox, you'll need to meet Kit, a 5 year old male Shiba Inu who comes in at only 16 lbs. Kit spent the first part of his life with a commercial breeder, so the world is still full of new experiences for him. Because of his past, he will need a patient, understanding family that will let him learn at his own pace. A big perk would be joining a home with a confident and kind resident dog. Kit is also an excellent copy cat! Trust doesn't happen overnight, but every small step he takes is a huge victory, and what better way to keep learning than from another furry pal. Kit is a gentle soul with the cutest fox-like face and a heart that's ready to discover what it means to be loved. He may be shy at first, but with kindness, consistency, and lots of encouragement, he will continue to blossom into the dog he’s meant to be. Kit is kid approved, but because he’s a bit skittish yet, it’s probably best to not have wild toddlers in the home to scare him. Kit is already crate trained and is seemingly potty trained for the most part. His latest milestone is scratching at the door to be let out. He does get nervous on car rides and will need to be trained on how to walk on a leash like any proper pet, but these tricks will all come in time. We can tell Kit is a smart boy who is ready to continue enjoying this newfound freedom. He will require a secure fully fenced in yard. If you're ready to open your heart and home to a truly rewarding experience, apply for Kit! He is neutered, fully vetted and vaccinated, had a dental cleaning with teeth pulled, and is on heartworm prevention. His adoption donation is $400. Please apply on our website directly in the dropdown menu at: havenanimalrescuenebraska PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: havenanimalrescuenebraska/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. We are a state licensed, 501c3 nonprofit rescue and the adoption donation may be tax deductible for you. Thank you for choosing adoption!!

Overview:
The Shiba Inu, a spirited and ancient breed originating from Japan, is renowned for its fox-like appearance and independent nature. Historically bred for hunting in mountainous regions, they possess a strong, athletic build with a distinctive curly tail and alert, expressive eyes. Their coat is typically short and dense, often displaying striking red, sesame, or black and tan colors, complete with a creamy "urajiro" underside. Temperamentally, Shibas are known for their intelligence, confidence, and sometimes aloof demeanor, yet they form strong bonds with their families. While they can be excellent companions, their strong prey drive and independent streak mean they require consistent training and socialization from a young age. They adapt well to apartment living provided they receive sufficient daily exercise, but a secure yard is always a plus. Generally a healthy breed, they can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, hip dysplasia, and allergies, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups essential. Their unique personality and striking looks make them a captivating choice for experienced dog owners who appreciate a dog with character.
