BIG BOY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Big Boy Best Guess for Breed: Great Pyrenees/Shepherd mix Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of August 2026 Gender: male Approximate Weight: 90lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs and kids! We have not seen Big Boy with cats but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any interested adopters. Currently Living At: DC area home What My Foster Says About Me: This is Big Boy, he's a 3 year old, 90lbs, Great Pyrenees mix. He is handsome, friendly, and unfortunately looking for a new home! Like most dogs his breed, he feels cooped up in a smaller yard and would prefer his humans be home more often. We try very hard to not unnecessarily place barriers to adopt such as requiring a yard or working from home - Big Boy just happens to be an exception, needing a more specific type of home where he can spend most of his day outside, running around in a large yard, under the supervision of someone who's usually always home. Why Big Boy? He LOVES other dogs and gets along with all of them. He's quite the gentleman at the dog park. He's lived with children including a baby through toddler life. He's very patient with kids and on occasion let's them get away with hiding their toys in his fur. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
