Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). To adopt or for more information, please visit TaysiaBlue Hi! My name is Olympus (aka Ollie) and I have conquered the highest mountain! When I came to rescue I was uncomfortably itchy and had lost a lot of my beautiful fur. I was still a sweet and loving boy though! After lots of tests, supplements, medicated baths, and diet changes we discovered my skin condition was likely caused by hypothyroidism. Once I started thyroid meds my energy levels increased, I stopped itching, and my scaly skin turned into peach fuzz. Now my face and paws have filled in and the rest of my body is getting new fur! Now that my body is healing and I feel good, my foster family has learned so much about me! First of all, I'm calm, sweet, gentle and quiet. I LOVE people, attention, and cuddles. I'm not overly needy though, I mostly hang out curled up on the couch. I'm a little shy when I first meet people out in public, but I warm up quickly. I am very gentle and tolerant with kids, even when they're super snuggly and huggy! I'm a great eater, even with my prescription diet. I do amazing in my crate and have also done well free roaming when my people are gone. I will wait by the door for a minute or two after you leave, but then go back to my comfy couch. I have had no accidents in the house. I'm non-destructive if you keep your things picked up (I may have taken the opportunity to nibble a glove and a pair of sunglasses once - oops!) Overall I'm low to medium energy. I can go for a 2-3 mile hike, but I don't need a ton of exercise. I do great on car rides and walk well on a leash! I enjoy meeting calm dogs, but I don't appreciate overly playful dogs who get in my face. I wouldn't mind another calm dog sibling who gives me space. I could also live very happily as an only dog getting all the attention and snuggles for myself! I'm very interested in bunnies and the neighbor's cat, so I should probably have a home without small animals. If you're willing to share your couch with me, fill out an application and mention Olympus! To adopt or for more information, please visit TaysiaBlue

Siberian Husky
A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
