Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Hi there, I’m James! I’m a 1-year-old, 48-pound Terrier mix with a fun-loving spirit and a heart full of gold. If you’re looking for a dog who is as ready for a weekend getaway as he is for a cozy afternoon at home, I’m your guy! I am super friendly with both people and other dogs! I actually made the trip here with my buddy June, so I’m very comfortable around canine pals. I’m already house-trained, great in the car, and big-time treat-driven—which means we’re going to have a blast working on new tricks together! I’m a very loving boy who bonds closely with my people and loves being by their side. I do have separation anxiety and have a very hard time being left alone. I need a home where someone is always home. My family will need to be prepared to work with me on the gradual, sometimes challenging, training that separation anxiety requires. This isn’t something that can be rushed, so my adopters will need to be patient, committed, and able to arrange their schedules so that I’m not left alone while I learn that being by myself is safe. In return, you’ll get an incredibly devoted companion who truly loves being with his people. I’m looking for a home with older kids or adults. Little ones just aren’t really my thing, but I do well with older, dog-savvy children who understand how to respect my space. I’m neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on all my vaccinations. I am young and have a lot of energy, so I also need a home where I can get plenty of exercise and opportunities to let that energy out. If you like long walks or need a running buddy, I am your guy! Whether we’re cruising around town with the windows down, heading out for a walk, or hanging out together at home, I’m just excited to be by your side. If you have the time, patience, and lifestyle to help a loving dog like me work through separation anxiety, I may just be your perfect match.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
