Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). It is absolutely mind-blowing to us that Cherry is still waiting for his forever home. We have no idea why this beautiful boy hasn't been scooped up yet—he has been nothing but happy, exuberant, and a total goofball since the day he left the shelter! Sure, he was a little rough around the edges at first, but once he felt safe, his fun and spunky personality completely shined through. He’s currently in an incredible foster home in Binghamton proving every single day that everyone deserves a second chance. He’s recovered from his corrective surgery for cherry eye, and he is doing—and looking—absolutely GREAT! Once he’s completely healed up, he is 100% ready to head off to his forever home. CHERRY'S DEETS: Age: ~3 years old Personality: Sweet, people-friendly, and a total goofball. The Pack: Does incredibly well with other dogs, cats, and kids! All of our animals receive comprehensive veterinary care prior to adoption, including a full exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, spay or neuter, heartworm testing, and any necessary medical treatment. A vet reference, home and/or family visit, and an adoption fee are required. Transport options are available within our operating region, including Pennsylvania, the tri-state area, and New England. All of our animals are examined by a veterinarian, given age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped, spayed or neutered, heartworm tested and treated if necessary. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
