Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (short coat). Adoption Fee: 300.00. Come and meet your new family member. Mika is a 2 year old GSD with high level energy, intelligence and confidence. She requires an experienced German Shepherd dog handler. She has a history of a left rear leg fracture which was plated in early December. Her fracture is healing but she is still under the care of her orthopedic surgeon. We are without restrictions now for all activities. She will likely need the hardware in her left tib/fib removed some time this year. She is swum daily to build muscles and coordination as she loves the pool. She is worked daily in obedience with ball reward. She is an intelligent, high level energy, intense working line GSD with capped drives. Her intensity and drives require daily obedience training and constant management by a knowledged GSD owner. She has connection, communications and relationship with her humans. She knows advanced obedience, is potty trained, crate trained and has a high level energy. She has food drive, ball drive and prey drive. She lives to engage with her family. If you are an approved adopter, have breed and working line GSD experience with a physically fenced yard (no invisibles fences please) and are interested in learning more about Mika please email her foster at sperciavcomcast

German Shepherd Dog

A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
