Wednesday morning, Jasper walked out of the shelter and into a brand-new chapter. And honestly? It was a freedom ride that was long overdue. Quiet, shut down, painfully thin, and so easy to overlook, Jasper's chances of making it out weren't looking very good. But one amazing MAD volunteer saw him. She advocated for him. She refused to let this sweet boy be forgotten. Thank you Erin Ward! Now he's safe and sound with his wonderful foster family, soaking up the sunshine by the ocean and finally getting to experience something he probably hasn't had much of in his life—peace. Welcome to the MAD pack, sweet boy. These freedom rides are always special, but this one means a little extra to me because I actually had the privilege of meeting Jasper. And I even got a little tiny tiny kiss! There is something about those quiet dogs. The ones who don't demand attention. The ones who sit back and watch while everyone else gets noticed. The ones who have learned that sometimes it's safer to stay small and invisible. But Jasper doesn't have to be invisible anymore. No more fighting to survive on the streets. No more wondering where his next meal will come from. No more being overlooked. From now on, there will be full meals, soft beds, sunshine, ocean breezes, kind hands, gentle voices, adventures, and people who will show him that life can actually be pretty wonderful.
