Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). NJ ***THIS IS A COURTESY POST ONLY*** **WAG ON INN HAS NO FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE OF THIS ANIMAL'S REACTIONS AND CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY BEHAVIORAL OR MEDICAL ISSUES** Sadly, Rocco is looking for a new home after one of his owners passed away and the family can no longer care for him. Rocco loves playing fetch, chasing balls, and playing with his toys. He has previously lived with other dogs and a cat and was able to get along well with them. Rocco has a fun and playful personality. He can be nervous when meeting new people or being around unfamiliar dogs at first. He needs slow introductions and some time to feel comfortable in new situations. Once he trusts someone, he is loving, playful, and enjoys affection. Rocco is neutered and up to date on his rabies vaccine; his veterinary records are available for review. Note: This is a courtesy post only and all applications will be sent to Rocco’s owner. Any transfer of this animal will be between the owner and the adopter. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through, they deserve a loving, committed home.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
