Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Rat Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Approx. DOB: 5/15/23 Approx. Weight: 15.5 Lbs Adoption Fee: $275 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness! Meet Jemma – A Little Dog with a Big Comeback Story! At approximately 3 years old and weighing just 12 pounds, Jemma is the perfect little companion with a heart that's learning to trust again. We believe she's a Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix, though that's just our best guess. Jemma came to us from a small rural Missouri shelter, and when she first arrived in her foster home, it was clear life had been overwhelming for her. She was so frightened that even gentle pets on her head made her flinch. But thanks to patience, love, and a safe place to land, Jemma has blossomed into an entirely different dog. Today, she's affectionate, playful, and loves being with her people. She's fully housebroken, crate trained, and leash trained, making her an easy companion to have around the house. Jemma already knows sit and stay, and she's almost mastered shake—she's a smart little girl who truly enjoys learning and wants to please. Jemma gets along wonderfully with the dogs in her foster home as well as visiting canine friends. She enjoys playing and would likely do well with another friendly dog who can continue to build her confidence. Because of her past, Jemma is still cautious around new people. She can become nervous when meeting strangers and may bark or appear unsure until she realizes she's safe. Her forever family will need to understand that trust isn't given immediately—it is earned. Once Jemma knows you're one of her people, she is incredibly loyal, loving, and devoted. Jemma has already come so far, and we know her best days are still ahead of her. She's looking for a patient family willing to give her the time she needs to settle in and let her amazing personality continue to shine. Please no children under the age of 13. If you're the kind of person who believes the most rewarding relationships are built on patience, kindness, and trust, Jemma is waiting to show you just how special she truly is. Could you be the one she's been waiting for? I have been spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative and microchipped. Breed overview
Overview:
The Rat-Cha, a charming crossbreed between the Chihuahua and Rat Terrier, offers a spirited companion with a unique blend of its parent breeds' best traits. Originating from the desire to combine the Chihuahua's affectionate nature with the Rat Terrier's intelligence and robustness, this hybrid is gaining popularity. Physically, Rat-Chas are typically small to medium-sized, weighing between 6 and 15 pounds, with a short, easy-to-care-for coat that can vary widely in color. They often possess expressive eyes and a sturdy build, reflecting their terrier lineage. Temperamentally, they are known for being alert, playful, and loyal, often forming strong bonds with their families. While they can be vocal, early socialization and training can mitigate this. Their adaptable size makes them well-suited for both apartment living and homes with yards, and they can be wonderful additions to active families, though supervision is wise with very young children due to their smaller stature. Health-wise, like many small breeds, they can be prone to dental issues and patellar luxation, so regular vet check-ups are important.
