Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Age : 2 years Size : 36 lbs Estimated breed: Pit bull mix Has lived with : Dogs, cats, kids From my foster: “The sweetest Sugar is ready to find her forever family! This gal is perfectly named. With a tail that doesn’t stop wagging and a perpetual smile, she wants everyone to be her bestie. A stranger, what’s that? A dog that doesn’t like dogs, what’s that? She has loved every human, including the littles, and every dog, big to small. She loves to snuggle, but if your dog wants to romp, she’s happy to give that a go to! Now onto her medical history. Sugar has been through the wringer. Sugar’s had both back legs surgically repaired through TPLO and patella repair. Because of her back legs being bad, her elbows did suffer a bit so she has some lasting cartilage damage there. She has been medically cleared with no restrictions. How does that replicate to real life? She doesn’t love the stairs but she will do them, especially with some food motivation. She will not be a hiking or running dog, but she is happy to take a short stroll! She sometimes needs some support to get in the car, on the sofa, etc. but the nice part is that she is super petite (about 30 pounds) so it’s easy. Sugar is about two and half years old, up to date on vaccines, spayed, and ready to love her own family.” Sugar entered a rural shelter as a stray in December 2025. She could barely walk, her back legs completely bowed out and her front legs were hunched over and flat at the feet. In partnership with a local rescue, we had Sugar assessed by an orthopedic vet, who advised that she needed double TPLO surgery to correct her back legs, and surgery on both front elbows to remove extra cartilage which had grown from her putting more pressure on them. Three surgeries and 6 months of heartworm treatment later, Sugar is ready for the next step in her young life - getting adopted! To adopt Sugar, please apply on our website! .nirvanaanimalrescue/adoption-application Sugar’s adoption fee is $350, which covers her vaccines, microchip, monthly prevention, and spay. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
