Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 400. Meet Junie! Junie is a hound mix, born approximately mid-November 2025, currently weighing in at a lean 27 pounds. This sweet girl is already spayed and ready to find her forever home. Junie's foster describes her as super docile and sweet — the kind of dog who just makes everything easier. She's fantastic with other dogs, gets along great with cats, and is wonderful with kids of all ages, including toddlers, making her a great fit for most households. Junie takes treats gently and settles into her crate without any fuss — she sleeps through the night in it and is completely content staying in her crate while her people are away. On leash, she walks nicely and will even let you know when she needs to go outside for a potty break, which makes house training so much easier. Junie is looking for a family who will love her gentle, easygoing spirit as much as her foster does. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
