Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 350. Junie is a sweet, gentle hound mix born November 2, 2025, and weighing about 27 pounds. She’s already spayed and ready to find her forever family! Junie is incredibly docile, loving, and eager to please. She’s wonderful with dogs, cats, and kids of all ages—including toddlers! She takes treats gently, walks nicely on leash, and settles happily into her crate. She sleeps through the night in her crate and is comfortable staying there while her people are away. Junie is still a young pup and is working on her potty training, so she’ll need a patient adopter who understands that she’s still learning. She would do especially well in a home with another friendly, confident dog who can help show her the ropes and give her a little guidance as she grows. This sweet girl has so much potential and is looking for someone willing to give her the patience, structure, and love she needs to become the wonderful companion she’s meant to be. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
